Spirituality, a clear sense of identity and purpose

What is spirituality? must people relate the word to something religious, or something with a touch of mysticism. The truth is, it might have a little bit about both things, but I found my own way to discover and describe spirituality.
As a human being, I've come across many ups and downs in life. Most of the time I had no idea how to handle it, sometimes I felt hopeless, anxious or depressed. I can describe those situations as an emotional roller coaster, and trust me, it has been quite a ride.
But I'm not here to talk about the past, or to complain about things that already happened. I'm over that attitude now, and my gift to you will be to explain how I did it, and what I'm doing to keep embracing spirituality in my life.
To me, spirituality is all about yourself, but understanding your connections with others, and realizing that you are not an individual, but a part of the whole.
The first step you have to take is the process of AWAKENING, which is nothing more than making a sudden stop in your life, and from the heart, admitting what you've done right and what you haven't done right, not to blame yourself, life of others, but to use the power of being responsible and honest with yourself.
You have to find some time to sit in silence and meditate, to see yourself from the outside, and evaluate all aspects of your life. Spending quality time to find out about your strengths and weaknesses, but more importantly, about your assets and opportunities.
Then you understand something very important, that CHANGE is your path to success and enlightenment, and that NOW is all you have, to DO all you need to do to keep growing and learning, while at the same time you enjoy the good things life has to offer.
Spirituality has a lot to do with leadership, because you take control of your life, heart and soul and do the best you can, with the best attitude to expand thru change, and to set your soul on fire to live happy and motivated even in the most difficult situations.
It's not about being good, or being kind, that helps, but it's about understanding, about making a balance between good and evil, and being true to yourself and others. It's the way you understand fear, and use it to confront all those ghosts that live inside of each of us, shaped by ourselves thru time, or by others. Everybody feels fear, it's what help us to survive and to understand danger, but also a good signal to understand that you need to face what you fear the most, to see that nothing can stop you, and nothing can block your path but yourself.
Most of the people I know use their minds to act, and they get so logical and yet so close minded. A spiritual person needs to make a balance between the logical mind and the emotional heart. You have to navigate thru those oceans, and it takes a lot of courage, but most importantly, a lot of UNDERSTANDING.
It's like learning to be kind but not dumb, humble but ambitious,  tough but not violent, religious but not fanatic, understanding the difference between needing love or wanting and sharing love. Being friendly but not too friendly, being silly but not too silly, so it's a lot about BALANCE and EQUILIBRIUM.
Being spiritual gives you a clear sense of identity and purpose in life, and it's something you'll take with you when you graduate from this human experience and travel to another place. It's something real and unique, and it's about understanding that all you need to do it's to go to the root of everything, but specially to the root of your true self. When you understand who you really are, you find wisdom to know where you want to go, because you understand that your heart is what leads you, thru strong and positive emotions, getting advice from a positive healthy mind. That balance, that equilibrium is what makes intelligent people wise, and wise people geniuses. Let your heart take the most important decisions, follow your own path thru your sixth sense, and let your logical mind help you understand what is good and bad for you and others. Then, only then, you'll be a spiritual person, free from political, religious and cultural systems, among other systems that make people act like zombies, and stop them from being authentic and awesome.
Understand that love is something spiritual,  all you need is inside of you, it's an energy that doesn't understand about fear or failure, so always use it for yourself, share it with others, and stop looking in other people, things or places what you already have within yourself. It doesn't mean you are not going to enjoy materialistic things or that you are not going to marry someone and have kids. It means you can do that understanding that you don't depend on them, and that they don't depend on you. Nobody owns anyone, we are atoms of energy, and together we are what I call GOD, and what you might call a different name depending on your religious or own point of view.
Respect yourself, never stop learning and growing, be real, be wise, be kind, be happy, be successful. Just be.
